Maxey Earns Third Northeast-10 Volleyball Rookie of the Week Selection

Freshman posts two double-doubles and a career high in kills for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) was this week named the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of October 25-31 by the Conference office. With the nomination, she becomes the first three-time Rookie of the Week honoree in the conference this season.

Maxey averaged a team-leading 3.22 kills and 3.56 digs per game during the week to help Stonehill improve to a 9-4 record in NE-10 competition. She put down a career-high 17 kills on Friday at Southern Connecticut State University to drive the Skyhawks to a 3-2 victory, and added 17 digs and a block assist. Maxey was again a top offensive performer for Stonehill in a 3-1 loss to the University of New Haven on Saturday, when she recorded another double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs.

With the Skyhawks in the hunt for a postseason playoff spot, Maxey leads the team with 344 digs for an average of 3.74 per set, and stands third on the team with 193 total kills. Stonehill currently ranks third in the NE-10 in digs with an average of 17.52 per set as a team.

Stonehill (13-12, 9-4 NE-10) will wrap up the regular season with two conference matchups this weekend, hosting Le Moyne College on Friday at 7 p.m. and The College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 1 p.m.
