Freshman helps Skyhawks to a 2-0 week and victory in first home match

EASTON, Mass. (September 27, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) was today named the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of September 20-26 by the Conference office. The nomination is her second in the season's first four weeks.

Maxey averaged 4.38 digs per game as Stonehill posted a pair of 3-1 victories against Merrimack College and Saint Anselm College. Her best performance was a 24-dig, 16-kill effort against Merrimack on Wednesday to lead the Skyhawks to a win in their first home match of the season, in which she also chipped in two block assists and two service aces. She followed it with 11 digs against Saint Anselm on Saturday, and recorded a team-high .259 hitting percentage for the week.

Through Stonehill's first ten games, Maxey ranks in the top ten in the NE-10 in digs, totaling 149 for an average of 3.92 per game.

Stonehill (4-6, 2-0 NE-10) visits Bentley University tomorrow at 7 p.m., before returning home for an Alumni Weekend match against the University of Bridgeport on October 2 at 1:30 p.m.
