EASTON, Mass. (May 3, 2021) – Stonehill College junior co-captain Samantha Ormesher was honored for her efforts in the classroom following Sunday's Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship by receiving the NE10 Elite 24 Award.

The Elite 24 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the finals site at each of the NE10's 24 Championships. These student-athletes represent the true essence of NE10 student-athletes earning it every day on the field and in the classroom, recognizing their effort. The inaugural year for the Elite 24 Award was the 2018-19 season.

Ormesher is the first recipient of the award from the Stonehill women's tennis program, but the College's sixth all-time – all of which have come over the last 17 months, including three to date for the 2020-21 academic year. Past Stonehill Elite 24 Award recipients include two-time honoree Evan Kennedy, a junior with the men's track & field program who earned the honor for the 2020 NE10 Outdoor and 2021 Indoor seasons, Derek Ivey a senior on the football team for the 2020 season, as well as graduates Rachel Dunlavy, '19 from volleyball and Grace Carter, '20 in women's basketball.

Ormesher is a biology major with a 3.74 grade point average at Stonehill. She is a five-time All-Northeast-10 Conference performer, including third team honors at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles this spring, who has earned NE10 Academic All-Conference and been named to both the NE10 Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll all five semesters to date. She has received Academic Distinction status for having a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 four of the five semesters she has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll, is a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, has received the Division II Athletic Director's Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award and College's St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for having the highest GPA on the women's tennis team.

Ormesher is a two-time NE10 All-Championships team selection over her career, having played in the third NE10 Championship of her career on Sunday, and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 NE10 Tournament. An NE10 All-Rookie Team pick as a freshman to go with her five All-Conference awards, has posted a career combined record of 53-30 in singles and doubles play, including a 42-13 NE10 record. She has a 26-13 career singles record, including 19-6 in the NE10, to go with a 27-17 doubles mark, including 23-7 in the NE10. This spring, Ormesher has posted a 14-5 combined record, including 12-3 in the NE10, with a 6-1 singles record, winning her last six decisions, and an 8-4 doubles mark, including 7-3 with senior Isabelle Porter, with whom she owns a career record of 16-10.

Stonehill (10-3, 8-2 NE10) reached the NE10 Championship match for the seventh-straight season and Conference record 14th time in program history overall, being edged by top-seeded and regular season champion Franklin Pierce University yesterday, 4-2. The Skyhawks were ranked No. 5 in last week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and are hopeful of hearing their names called during the NCAA II Championship selection show on ncaa.com tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. Stonehill aims for its 15th NCAA Tournament bid in program history.
