EASTON, Mass. (April 22, 2021) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, capped its regular season with a 5-0 Senior Day victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

  • Senior Isabelle Porter celebrated Senior Day as a double-winner for Stonehill, including providing the match-clinching point at No. 3 singles.
  • Sophomore Cristina Solorzano Valencia, ranked No. 6 in the most recent Oracle/ITA Division II East Region singles rankings, was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles and doubles.

How it Happened

  • Porter and junior Samantha Ormesher clinched the doubles point for Stonehill with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles after the Skyhawks picked up a win at No. 3 doubles by default.
  • Stonehill also collected a singles point by default and then junior Emma Markaryan pulled the Skyhawks within a point of the victory without dropping a game in a straight sets win at No. 4 singles against Saint Michael's junior Jenny Panergo.
  • Porter then provided the match-clinching point moments later, finishing off a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 3 singles against Saint Michael's sophomore Zoe Rogers.

    Stonehill clinched a bye for the upcoming NE10 Tournament with the win, and will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament for the second-straight season.
  • Stonehill is listed as one of six teams "under consideration" for an NCAA Tournament bid, by the NCAA selection committee, for the second-straight week.
  • Porter, a three-time All-NE10 performer, who has been ranked as high as No. 13 in the East Region singles rankings and been regionally ranked for doubles with two different playing partners in her career, improved to a combined 8-3 in singles and doubles play with her two wins this afternoon, posting a 6-2 doubles record, including 6-1 with Ormesher. Porter is now a combined 72-37 over her career, posting a 36-18 singles mark, including 21-6 in the NE10, to go with a 36-19 career doubles record, including 17-7 in NE10 play.
  • Markaryan won her fifth-straight singles decision, improving to 7-1 this season and 34-9 in singles play over her career. She has posted a 26-2 career singles record in the NE10 and is a combined 47-13 in singles and doubles play over her career, including 33-3 in NE10 matches.
  • Solorzano Valencia, who has earned NE10 Player of the Week honors two-straight weeks, has won her last four singles matches to improve to 5-1 at the top flight. She and sophomore Steffi Antao have won six-straight matches at No. 1 doubles after today's win, improving to 6-2 for the season.

Stonehill (8-2, 8-2 NE10) will return to action next Wednesday, April 28, when it opens defense of its two-straight NE10 Tournament Championships by hosting a quarterfinal round match at 2 p.m. The Skyhawks await the winner of a first round match on Sunday, likely between the University of New Haven and Saint Anselm College. Saint Michael's (0-8, 0-8 NE10) awaits its first-round matchup after closing out the regular season today as well.
