EASTON, Massachusetts (September 12, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team saw  Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption College score the game-winning goal in double overtime for a 3-2 victory Wednesday afternoon on Skyhawk Field.

Stonehill (4-1-0, 1-1-0 NE10) saw Camryn Thompson and Nicole Garfield tallied the goals for the Skyhawks. Courtney Campo and Elizabeth Nerger registered the helpers in the game, while junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown tallied six saves.

In the first 10 minutes of the game, there was a total of six shots, five from the Greyhounds and one from the Skyhawks, and two corner kicks from Assumption. Both teams were very active in the first half, as Stonehill was able to connect first off Thompson's fourth goal of the season with a pass from Campo at 20:56 for a 1-0 advantage. Assumption pressured Stonehill and after six minutes of high intensity, the Greyhounds responded at 26:02 with a strike from Ania Spina and a helper from Kallie Villemaire to tie the game at one each, 1-1.

The Skyhawks quickly took advantage, as they tallied a corner kick, but the inswinger was punched out by the Greyhounds. Stonehill regained possession and after Nerger lifted the ball at the top of the 18-yard box which nicked the crossbar, Garfield was in front of the goal and was able to collect the shot for a one touch putting the Skyhawks back on top, 2-1, at 29:27. Assumption once again was able to tie the match up after back-to-back shots that were saved by Brown, followed by back-to-back corner kicks. On the second corner kick, Spina sent an inswinger into the box and Diana Bruggeman sent the ball to the back of the net for the equalizer at 33:57.

Nerger notched her fourth assist of the season, sixth of her career

The second half saw much back-and-forth play as neither team was able put one in the back of the net, as the Greyhounds just outshot the Skyhawks 7-6. In the first overtime, Assumption saw two opportunities but one was stopped by Brown and the other sailed over the crossbar, while Stonehill put one shot on the board with a strike high over bar as well.

Stonehill had an early break in the second overtime, as Alex Giardina chipped the ball inside the net for Assumption's Alexis Nason's fifth save of the game. In the 106th minute, Assumption capitalized on a misplayed ball and saw Bruggeman send the ball to Villemaire, who was in front of the goal, for a one-touch to the back of the net, giving the Greyhounds its first NE10 win of the season.

Stonehill will travel to Syracuse, New York for a NE10 Conference battle against Le Moyne College on Saturday, September 15 with a kickoff at 11:00 a.m. on Ted Grant Field.
