Skyhawks recognize its six seniors prior to the match

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 26, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II East Regional and United Soccer Coaches' East Regional rankings fought a tough battle against LIU Post, who is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II and United Soccer Coaches' East Regional rankings, as the Pioneers won 1-0 Friday night at W.B. Mason Stadium in non-conference play.
Stonehill's (13-5-0, 10-4-0 NE10) senior Catherine Klein saw her second-career start in net, as she tallied five saves in the loss.
For the first 16 minutes of action, neither team tallied any statistic, until the Pioneer's Gabrielle Clark closed in on the eight-yard box and send a header just right of the goal post for the first shot of the game at 16:23. Once they saw Clark send a shot wide of the net, LIU Post found their rhythm and kept the ball in their attacking third for a few minutes. Stonehill returned the energy and saw Courtney Campo send the ball over the crossbar in the 24th minute. Stonehill was outshot in the first half by LIU Post, 5-3, as the Pioneers were called for three fouls, to the Skyhawks' one.
LIU Post took the ball into their attacking third immediately at the start of the second half and Klein held her ground in net, with her third save of the game. Stonehill was able to fight back with their own shots on goal, including a strike from Kayla Henry that was just lifted over the crossbar in the 54th minute. With seven Pioneer corners in the second half, LIU Post was bound to capitalize on an opportunity, and that is exactly what they did. Alice Schonfeldt registered the fourth corner kick of the half, that was an inswinger to the far right post, where Samantha Gordon was connecting on a header to the back of the net for the first score of the game at 75:22.
LIU Post quickly saw another turn in its attacking third with four shots in a span of six minutes. The Pioneers wrapped up the game with three more corner kicks that weren't able reach the feet or heads of their own players, but LIU Post outshot Stonehill, 10-3 in the second half for an overall total of 15-6, as the Skyhawks totaled five shots on goal.
The Skyhawks wait out two more of days of Conference play before knowing who they will host for their 10th appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, which quarterfinal action starts on Tuesday, October 30 at the higher seeds of the top-four schools in the league.
