Geraghty scores first goal of the season

Brown tallied her third win and third shutout of the season

EASTON, Massachusetts (September 6, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team defeated Molloy College 1-0 on Thursday afternoon on Skyhawk Field in non-conference play, for their third-straight shutout of the season.

Stonehill (3-0-0) saw Nicole Geraghty score her first goal of the season in the 71st minute, while junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown notched two saves in the Lions' two shots on goal.

For about the first five minutes of the half, Molloy kept the ball out of their defensive third, as they saw two shots and a corner kick. The Skyhawks tallied their first corner kick of the game in the eighth minute by Geraghty and Nadia Havens headed the ball into the keeper's hands for their first shot on goal and Stonehill's first scoring opportunity.

The Skyhawks were close once again in the 16th minute of play with back-to-back shots, one from Geraghty that chipped the crossbar and was collected by Isabella Collentro for her own strike at the net.

Geraghty tallied her first goal of the season and seventh of her career

Stonehill saw 10 shots in the second half, including the game winner by Geraghty in the 71st minute. Prior to the tally, the Skyhawks' Tess Erwin headed the ball way out of the box after the Lions crossed the ball from the left corner. Stonehill took the ball up field to their attacking third and was able to see a shot on goal from Nicole Garfield that made the keeper dive to the left and then a rebound shot from Courtney Campo that made the keeper lay out to her left again for two stops in the 64th minute.

Six minutes later, Stonehill was able to capitalize on a defensive miscue as Camryn Thompson headed the ball from 25 yards out to Garfield. Garfield then tipped it to Geraghty who was inside the 18-yard box and turned against the defense and found the open net for a goal to the back right post in the 71st minute, 1-0.

The Lions were unable to get the ball in their attacking third, as the Skyhawks held possession up until the game was called at 76:16.
