Ravens earn regular season series sweep behind Ernst's six points

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2021) – Franklin Pierce University held off a late second half rally from Stonehill College to secure a 10-9 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Sodexo Field this afternoon.

How it Happened

  • Franklin Pierce opened a four-goal lead (8-4) less than six minutes into the second half, keyed by a pair of goals from junior Savannah Ernst, and then held off a late Stonehill run to secure the win.
  • Stonehill struck first, with a free-position goal from freshman Molly Mae Hughes, 90-seconds into the contest.
  • Franklin Pierce responded with three-straight, including two by junior Megyn Ayotte, to grab the lead (3-2) over the next ten minutes.
  • Stonehill scored three of the next four goals, including two by senior Shannon Hughes, to level the score (4-4) with 14:06 left in the first half.
  • Sophomore Gabby Oswald sent Franklin Pierce into halftime with the lead (5-4), assisted by Ernst, who scored the first two goals of the second half, before junior Morgan Baxendale stretched the Ravens lead to four (8-4) less than six minutes in.
  • Junior Emma Sullivan scored her two goals in the contest within the span of 51-seconds to pull Stonehill back within a pair (9-7) with 14:47 remaining.
  • After Baxendale added her second of the half for Franklin Pierce two minutes later, sophomore Katie Julien answered with 11-minutes to go.
  • Senior Olivia Pino pulled Stonehill back within a goal with a free-position goal with 12-seconds remaining, and the Skyhawks were able to control the ensuing draw control, but time ran out before they could muster a shot at forcing overtime.

Noteworthy

  • Ernst led three from Franklin Pierce with multiple goals, finishing with a game-high five goals and an assist for six points, while collecting five draw controls and two ground balls.
  • Shannon Hughes and Sullivan led Stonehill with two goals apiece, while Sullivan also tallied seven draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Hughes chipped in with two caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Lydia Rudden added a goal and three assists for a team-high three points on the day. She has dished out multiple assists in six of eight games this spring.
  • Senior Kaleigh Wright logged her fourth double-digit save outing of the season and third over her four starts, finishing the day with ten stops.
