Hughes Named NE10 Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2021) – Stonehill College freshman Molly Mae Hughes has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's lacrosse by the league office today.

Hughes earns the weekly honor for the first time after helping Stonehill to a 21-5 victory at Southern New Hampshire University last Wednesday in its lone game of the week. She dished out a season-high three assists, while collecting five draw controls and a ground ball in the Skyhawks first win of the season.

Two of Hughes' three helpers came in the first half as Stonehill built a 13-3 halftime lead and didn't look back. She first set up junior Emma Sullivan's third of five first half goals to put the Skyhawks up 8-1 with 9:29 left in the opening half, before assisting on sophomore Katie Julien's first goal with 31-seconds left in the half. She capped her three-assist afternoon, by setting up Julien's second goal of the afternoon for a 20-4 lead with 6:06 left.

Hughes has started all three games for Stonehill so far this season, ranking second on the team with her five assists, while adding four goals to rank fourth on the team with nine points. She has converted 1-of-4 free-position shot attempts and added five ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover this year. Hughes opened her Skyhawks career with a season-high three goals, to go with an assist, in the season-opener against Franklin Pierce University on March 17.

Stonehill (1-2, 1-2 NE10) is now scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 4, to host Assumption College, ranked No. 15 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Please note this game has been moved up in the schedule from its originally scheduled April 10 to accommodate makeup a of this Wednesday's postponed contest against No. 21 Saint Anselm College. Stonehill and Saint Anselm will now play on Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. Saturday's originally scheduled home game with Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 3, has been postponed, with no makeup announced to date.

Fans from off campus will not be permitted to attend Saturday's game with Assumption in conjunction with the current Stonehill and NE10 spectator policy, but the game will be available via SkyhawksVision on NE10 NOW. In addition to watching online, viewers will also be able to watch the action live on their televisions through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku by downloading the NE10 NOW app.
