Booth leads Skyhawks with five points as Vetter nets 100th career point
DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 7, 2017) – Stonehill College, ranked 19th in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll and 20th in the US Lacrosse Magazine poll, staked out an 11-2 lead after 30 minutes of play and didn't look back in claiming a 17-6 victory over Tusculum College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Northeast Regional Park today.
Senior Shannon Booth (Pearl River, New York/Nanuet) totaled five points, while classmate Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) netted two goals and recorded her 100th career point to lead Stonehill to its first win of the season. Booth netted four goals and added an assist, while Vetter and contributed a pair of draw controls. Freshman MacKenzie Pleshaw (Franklin, Massachusetts/Franklin) added three goals and an assist for four points, while junior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) registered three points with a goal and two assist, with two draws. Sophomore Linna Jalinskas (Farmington, Connecticut/Farmington) chipped in with two goals.
Juniors Kaitlyn Hess (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland) and Bailey Herr (Oakhurst, New Jersey/Ocean Township) split the goalkeeping duties for Stonehill, which finished with a 39-16 advantage for shots. Hess made five first half saves for the Skyhawks, yielding just two goals, while Herr posted two second half stops. Post grad Kaitlin Winnie (Accord, New York/Rondout Valley) registered 12 saves over the first 41:06 in the Tusculum goal.

Junior Madison Malone (Maple Grove, Minnesota/Osseo) totaled four points to lead Tusculum with two goals and two assists, while collecting three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Classmate Savannah Elliott (Oshawa, Ontario/O'Neill CVI) added a pair of goals and a caused turnover for the Pioneers.
Tusculum got on the scoreboard first with Malone's first goal of the day on a free-position shot 3:22 into the game. Stonehill responded with the next five goals, the first two by Pleshaw, to take a four goal lead following freshman Kaitlin Healey's (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) first career goal with 18:56 remaining in the first half. Elliott's 21st goal of the year stopped the run, but the Skyhawks netted the final six goals of the half to gain control with an 11-2 halftime lead, capped by Vetter's first goal of the day, and her 100th career point, on a free-position shot with a second left. Booth had a pair of goals during the run, while Shannahan contributed a goal and assist.
Stonehill extended the run to eight goals by netting the first two markers of the second half to push its lead to 11 (13-2) as Pleshaw capped her hat trick with her fifth goal of the year 2:37 into the half. The Skyhawks lead would grow to 13 (17-4) after Booth set up freshman Kiersten Pease's (Irondequoit, New York/Irondequoit) first career goal with 5:34 remaining. Tusculum rounded out the afternoon's scoring with a pair in the final 4:45.
Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 NE10) returns north for its home opener on Saturday against No. 4/8 LIU Post at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Tusculum (3-4, 1-0 SAC) visits Florida Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m.
