Hall nets five goals as Dolphins defense holds back Skyhawks

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 1, 2017) – Le Moyne College, ranked No. 3 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division II polls, claimed a 10-6 victory over Stonehill College, ranked 19th in the IWLCA poll, in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Ted Grant Field today.

Freshman Sidney Hall (Adams Center, New York/South Jefferson) netted five of Le Moyne's ten goals, while the Dolphins defense limited Stonehill to just 11 shots on goal and forced 13 turnovers to remain unbeaten. Classmate Hannah George (Johnson City, New York/Maine-Endwell) anchored the defensive effort with five saves in the Dolphins goal, including two on free-position shot attempts by the Skyhawks.

Senior Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, New York/West Genesee) added three goals, while sophomore Maddie Knapp (Watertown, New York/South Jefferson) dished out four assists in the win. Graveline also contributed three draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Junior Jacqueline Pardee (Camillus, New York/West Genesee) chipped in with a goal and assist.

Senior Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) had a hand in three of Stonehill's six goals with two goals and an assist. Junior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) dished out two assists and collected four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Freshman Jennifer Wheaton (Dartmouth, Massachusetts/Dartmouth) chipped in with a goal, six draws, a ground ball and caused turnover for the Skyhawks.

Freshman Bailey Grant (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) finished with a season-high eight saves, including five in the first half to keep Stonehill in the game, posting three stops on Le Moyne free-position shots as the Dolphins were held to 3-for-7 on attempts for the afternoon.

Stonehill erased an early goal deficit with a three goal run to take an early lead after Wheaton's 11th goal of the season 7:06 into the game. Vetter had a goal and assist and Shannahan doled out both of her assists during the run. Le Moyne responded with the next four goals to reclaim the lead following senior Alexis Garbarino's (Endwell, New York/Maine-Endwell) 11th of the season with 12:34 to play in the half, Graveline netted a pair of markers, while two of the four goals came on free-position tries for the Dolphins.

Stonehill potted two of the next three goals from sisters Kelly Healey and Kaitlin Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) around Hall's second goal of the game, to draw back within one (6-5) with 7:19 left in the half. Le Moyne took a three goal lead (8-5) into halftime, with goals from Graveline and Hall set up by Knapp in the final 4:34.

Le Moyne extended its run to four goals with a pair of Hall markers two minutes apart to extend its lead to five goals (10-5) with 10:55 remaining. Vetter capped the scoring with a free-position goal with 5:39 left, but Stonehill would get no closer.

Stonehill (4-5, 3-3 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Assumption College for an NE10 matchup at 7 p.m. Please note the date change on this game, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, April 8, to host American International College at 1 p.m. Le Moyne (8-0, 5-0 NE10) visits Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
