Craig Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team Honors

Rocky Point, N.Y., native honored for performance on the field and in the classroom

EASTON, Mass. (June 1, 2010) – Stonehill College senior women's lacrosse standout Jaclyn Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) has been recognized for her performances on both the field and in the classroom by earning ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) throughout New England and New York. With her selection to the At-Large first team, Craig is now eligible for Academic All-America selection. CoSIDA's at large Academic All-America program includes student-athletes that that compete in the sports of tennis, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and volleyball.

Craig, a four-time first team All-America selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), recently graduated with a 3.66 cumulative grade point average while majoring in accounting at Stonehill. She recently received the Edward E. Martin Scholar-Athlete Award at the College and is a St. Thomas Aquinas medal recipient for having the highest cumulative GPA on the lacrosse team.

Craig, the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is a four-time IWLCA All-North Region selection and four-time All-NE-10 honoree, earning first team honors her final three seasons. She started 14 of the 15 games she played for Stonehill this spring and posted 26 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. She was the leader of a defensive unit which ranks eighth nationally in Division II with an 8.97 team goals against average and fourth with 12.29 caused turnovers per game. The team allowed just 3.88 goals per game in the second half this year.

Craig, one of the top defenders in program history, appeared in 65 career games at Stonehill and totaled 116 ground balls, 118 draw controls and 69 caused turnovers. She has also chipped in on offense with six goals and three assists for nine points over her career. Craig is an NE-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and IWLCA Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee.

Stonehill (13-4, 10-1 NE-10) earned its sixth NCAA Tournament bid in program history and first since 2007. The third-seeded Skyhawks fell to eventual National Champions Adelphi University in the opening round.
