Stonehill Earns Sixth NCAA Tournament Bid
Skyhawks seeded third in North Region, head back to second-seeded and defending National Champion Adelphi for first round Saturday, May 15
EASTON, Mass. (May 9, 2010) – The Stonehill College women's lacrosse team has earned its sixth bid to the NCAA Division II Championships as announced by the NCAA women's lacrosse selection committee tonight.
Stonehill (13-3, 10-1 NE-10) are seeded third in the North Region and will face second-seeded and defending National Champions Adelphi University (16-1, 11-0 NE-10) in first round action in Garden City, N.Y., on Saturday, May 15, at 12:30 p.m. It will mark the second-straight matchup between the two longtime NCAA Tournament rivals and fellow Northeast-10 Conference members after the Panthers edged the Skyhawks 14-13 in overtime this afternoon in the NE-10 Championship at Competition Field.
The winner of next Sunday's matchup will advance to the Division II Final Four at Clark Field in Gettysburg, Pa., to face the North Region's top-seed LIU-C.W. Post (17-1, 7-0 ECC) on Saturday, May 22. The 2010 NCAA Division II Championship match is slated for Sunday, May 23, at 3 p.m., and will be televised live on CBS College Sports.
Stonehill is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance, but first since 2007. The Skyhawks are two-time National Champions, winning the title in 2003 and 2005. Head Coach Katie Lambert-Conover, who was a senior on Stonehill's first national championship squad, has earns her first NCAA Tournament appearance as a head coach with Stonehill.
Stonehill has also earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2001, '02, '03, '05 and '07.
