EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2010) – Two members of the Stonehill College women’s lacrosse team, ranked sixth in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, have earned weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference this week.
Sophomore attack Sarah Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) was named the Northeast-10’s Player of the Week for the first time, while Rebecca Moore (Marlborough, Mass./Saint Mark’s School) earned NE-10 Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Week accolades and was also selected as Division II Rookie of the Week by womenslacrosse.com. It marks the second-straight week at Stonehill lacrosse player has collected NE-10 Freshman of the Week and womenslacrosse.com Rookie of the Week honors, with Moore joining classmate Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover).
Galligan led Stonehill to a 2-0 week as she netted 11 goals to go with two assists for 13 points. She scored the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 11-8 victory over 8th-ranked Dowling College and also added eight ground balls, a draw control and three caused turnovers for the week. Including the winning goal at Dowling, Galligan finished with five goals and an assist, also collecting four ground balls and a caused turnover. She opened the week by netting a career-best six goals to go with an assist for a career-high seven points to lead the Skyhawks to a 21-10 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, adding four ground balls, a draw control and two caused turnovers.

Galligan has started all seven matches this season for Stonehill and leads the team with 22 goals (7th NE-10) to go with five assists to rank second on the team with 27 points. She shares the team lead with two game-winning goals (3rd), ranking second with ten caused turnovers to go with 22 ground balls and four draw controls.
Over her two year career with the Skyhawks, Galligan has totaled 38 goals and seven assists for 45 points in 22 career games played. She also has three game-winning goals, 38 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and nine draw controls.
Moore was the backbone of a Stonehill defense last week that limited opponents to just 9.00 goals per game over its two wins, averaging 14.5 saves per game and posting a .617 save percentage while playing all 120 minutes in goal. She also collected ten ground balls and three caused turnovers for the week.
Moore posted a season-high 19 saves in Wednesday’s 21-10 win over Southern New Hampshire, holding the Penmen to just three second half goals with 11 stops in the final 30 minutes. She registered ten saves, holding 8th-ranked Dowling to a season-low eight goals, including just three in the second half, while also posting four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Moore has played nearly every minute in goal in her first collegiate season at Stonehill. She has posted a 9.13 goals against average (2nd NE-10) and .543 save percentage (2nd) while averaging 10.71 saves per game (8th) in 414:01 played over seven starts.
Stonehill (6-1, 4-1 NE-10) is back in action tonight when it hosts Saint Anselm College at W.B. Mason Stadium for an NE-10 contest at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks wrap up the week at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
