Van Zanen notches fourth career top ten to lead Skyhawks at The 1886

DORSET, Vt. (October 4, 2021) – Stonehill College rounded out its first event of the season, marking its first host tournament in the program's five-year history with a third-place finish at The 1886, hosted on the 5,601-yard, par 71, layout at Dorset Field Club today.

    Merrimack College earned the distinction of winning Stonehill's first tournament by posting a two-day score of 614 (301-313) as the Warriors placed three golfers in the top five and six in the top eight over the two-day event. The Warriors were led by junior Jacquelyn Stiles in second overall after following up her opening round 72 with a five-over-par 75 for a two-day score of 147 (+7).
  • College of Saint Rose sophomore Erika Fuentes earned medalist honors with an even par two-day score of 140, following up Sunday's one-under-par 69 with a one-over-par round of 71 today.
  • Assumption University took second with a two-day score of 666 (333-333), slipping past Stonehill by two strokes on Monday, who finished with a 668 (330-338), with Adelphi University fourth (339-339=678) and Saint Rose fifth (355-373=728).
  • Senior captain Sloane Van Zanen led the way for Stonehill with her fourth career top ten finish, posting a two-day score of 162 (77-85) to finish tied for sixth in the field of 33 golfers. She posted a birdie on the 182-yard, par 3, eighth hole after recording 11 pars and nothing worse than bogey during her career-low matching round of 77 on Sunday.
  • Senior Emma Beaulieu and junior Julia Dapron both finished tied for 14th with two-day scores of 167. Dapron carded the Skyhawks low round of the day with an 82, featuring eight pars and just two double bogeys on the day, moving up three spots on the leaderboard.
  • Beaulieu followed up her 82 on Sunday with an 85 on Monday, posting two more birdies on the 119-yard, par 3, second hole as well as the eighth.
  • Junior Emily Kase also moved up on the leaderboard on Monday, finishing 22nd overall with a score of 180 (92-88), carding a birdie on the 344-yard, par 4 14th hole.
  • Sophomore Emma Casey rounded out the Skyhawks in the field with a two-day score of 199 (95-104) for 31st place.
