EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2022) – Stonehill College returned to the court for the first time in two weeks and secured a 72-63 victory over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.

How it Happened

    Stonehill led for all but nine seconds used a pair of second half runs to seal the win.
  • Saint Rose held its first of two leads of the game (13-12) when Wambere capped a 6-0 run with her second basket of the stretch with 2:08 to play in the opening quarter.
  • Senior Emily Bramanti quickly restored the lead for Stonehill with two free-throws at the other end and the Skyhawks regained a five-point cushion (19-14) after two Kelly free-throws with 45-left in the frame, before settling for a one-point lead after baskets from Blasetti and sophomore Aisha Smith to close out the frame.
  • Stonehill scored the first six points of the second quarter to stretch its lead to seven (25-18) after two more Kelly free-throws after 3:14.
  • Saint Rose rallied for another one-point lead (30-29) after a Townes three-pointer with 1:20 to play in the half, but Stonehill took the lead into the lockerroom (36-33) on a three-pointer from freshman Sharn Hayward.
  • Stonehill pushed its lead to eight (45-37) after a basket by Glidden 5:15 into the third and then extended it to 11 (51-40) on a Kelly layup with 2:07 to play in the quarter.
  • The Skyhawks carried a double-digit lead (53-43) into the fourth, but Saint Rose responded by scoring the first seven points of the frame, including five by Wambere, to get back within a possession (53-50) after she scored a layup two minutes in.
  • The Golden Knights trimmed their deficit to a single point (57-56) after a layup by fifth-year Nina Fedullo at the midway point of the fourth, but could get no closer.
  • Leading by two (61-59) after Blasetti split two free-throws with 3:27 to play, Stonehill scored the next eight points, sparked by back-to-back three-point plays by Kelly and Glidden, to push lead back to ten (69-59) with 61-seconds remaining and seal the win.

Noteworthy

  • Kelly reached double-figures for the sixth time this season (6th career) with her career-high scoring effort and first career 20-point outing, scoring in double digits for the fifth time over the last seven games.
  • Raymond notched her third double-double of the season (9th career) with her tenth double-figure scoring game in 11 games played this season (49 career).
  • Raymond's 18 points give her 955 in 58 career games.
  • Stonehill made 60-percent of its shots (6-for-10) in the fourth quarter and converted 7-of-8 (87.5%) free-throws in the final frame.
  • The Skyhawks finished shooting 41.4% (24-for-58) from the field, including 2-for-19 (10.5%) from three-point distance, connecting on 22-of-39 (56.4%) shots from inside the arc.
  • Stonehill outscored Saint Rose 32-13 in points off turnovers.
  • Stonehill was playing its first game in 13 days.
