EASTON, Mass. (April 23, 2021) – Sixth-seeded Stonehill College, No. 10 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, is set to make its record-matching 20th appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis tournament, when it visits third-seeded Franklin Pierce University, ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA East Region rankings, for a first round match tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Indoor backup for the match, in the event of inclement weather, will be Monadnock Indoor Tennis Club in Peterborough, New Hampshire, at 8:30 p.m. Please check out stonehillskyhawks.com in the morning if there is a shift in venue.

Stonehill (1-8, 1-8 NE10) is competing in the third-straight NE10 Tournament and the 20th time in program history overall. The Skyhawks and fifth-seeded Bentley University (2-7, 2-6 NE10) are the only two programs to compete in 20 NE10 Tournaments since the Conference adopted the current dual match format in 2000. Stonehill has reached the semifinal round nine times under the dual match format, winning the NE10 Championship in 2009, while making the title match in 2008 as well. Franklin Pierce is making its eighth NE10 Tournament appearance since joining the Conference prior to the 2001 season, having reached the championship match twice in 2003 and 2005 and advancing to the semifinals four times.

The winner of Saturday's first round match will advance to Tuesday's NE10 semifinals to face the winner of tomorrow's first round clash between No. 7 Saint Michael's College (0-9, 0-9 NE10) and No. 2 Southern New Hampshire University (7-1, 7-1 NE10) being played in Hooksett, New Hampshire, tomorrow at 1 p.m. Top-seeded and NE10 regular season champions Le Moyne (8-0, 8-0 NE10) earned a bye into the semifinal round with all seven NE10 tennis programs earning a postseason berth. The Dolphins await the winner of tomorrow's first round battle between Bentley and No. 4 Adelphi University (5-3, 5-3 NE10). The NE10 Championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, at the site of the highest remaining seed at 1 p.m.

Stonehill, under the direction of Hall of Fame head coach Peter Miller, '75, who has posted a 360-280 (.563) record over his 40 seasons at the helm of his alma mater, enters the NE10 Tournament having played an abbreviated regular season schedule in which eight of its nine opponents are ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region rankings. Tomorrow's projected lineup will feature four seniors and three sophomores, while nine student-athletes in all have seen matches in the lineup this spring.

Seniors Joey Conrod, Vincent Huynh, Aleksander Lazowski, Trent Newman and Russell White have all competed in the NE10 Tournament each year it has been held over their careers. The Skyhawks have also gotten contributions this season from sophomores Christian Duffy, Luke Nickerson and Ben Simmons as well as freshman Liam Bevens, who are all making their NE10 Tournament debuts this season.

Stonehill has gotten singles victories this spring from Duffy at No. 1 singles, Huynh at No. 4, Lazowski at No. 6, Nickerson at No. 5, Simmons at No. 6 and White at No. 2 this spring. The doubles pairing of White and Nickerson have posted a 2-3 record this spring, splitting four matches at No. 2. Huynh and Newman have split their two matches together as well.

Franklin Pierce enters the NE10 Tournament winners of its last two matches after being dealt its lone loss at Southern New Hampshire on April 8. The Ravens are led by postgrad Felipe Carvalho at No. 1 singles and doubles, while postgrad Kevin Denecheau plays at No. 2 singles and doubles. Freshman Ivan Bernal is unbeaten at No. 3 singles (6-0) this season, while sophomore Joel Cladera is undefeated (6-0) at No. 4.

Franklin Pierce posted a 7-0 victory over Stonehill in its lone regular season matchup at Charles Watt Tennis Courts on April 6. Carvalho led five double-winners for the Ravens in the match with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. He took the first set against Duffy by a break, before taking the second, 6-2. Senior Yuval Barak was a part of clinching points for doubles and the match at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.
