Dolphins remain unbeaten behind four double-winners in regionally-ranked clash

EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2021) – Le Moyne College, ranked No. 5 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, handed Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in the region, a 7-0 setback in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Fifth-year Philip Blythe led four double-winners for Le Moyne to remain unbeaten on the season, with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles.
  • Sophomores Felipe Cruz, Kacper Piekarek and Erik Adler were also double-winners for Le Moyne.
  • Senior Russell White and sophomore Ben Simmons each battled into third sets in their singles matches for Stonehill. White and sophomore Luke Nickerson also went into a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles for the Skyhawks.

How it Happened

  • Blythe and senior Tom Jarry clinched the doubles point for Le Moyne with their 6-2 win over Stonehill senior Aleksander Lazowski and sophomore Christian Duffy at No. 1 singles.
  • Adler and sophomore Ethan Miller earned the Dolphins first doubles win with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
  • Cruz gave Le Moyne its first singles point with his win at No. 5 singles against Stonehill senior Joey Conrod.
  • Piekarek followed with a decision over Lazowski at No. 4 singles to pull Le Moyne within a point of the win.
  • Senior Jared Howard clinched the match win for Le Moyne with his 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles against Duffy.
  • While not figuring in the decision, Blythe battled back from a set down to edge White at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the match of the day.
  • Simmons also battled into a third set for Stonehill before being defeated by Adler, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

Noteworthy

  • Today marked the fourth of five-straight matches against regionally-ranked teams to open the season for Stonehill.

Up Next

Stonehill (0-4, 0-4 NE10) is back on the courts on Saturday, to host Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 2 in the region, at Watt Courts at 2 p.m. Fans from off campus will not be permitted to attend the match in conjunction with the current Stonehill and NE10 spectator policy. Le Moyne (4-0, 4-0 NE10) visits Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
