Dolphins score in each half in shutout victory

EASTON, Mass. (October 28, 2021) – Le Moyne College netted a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Skyhawk Field today. 

The Details

  • Fifth-year Patrick Strauss scored the go-ahead goal for Le Moyne 32-minutes into the game when he left-footed a corner kick from the right side by postgrad Robert Rohrhirsch into the left side of the goal to give the Dolphins a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
  • Le Moyne recorded a 17-7 advantage in shots for the contest, including 8-1 on target. Postgrad Josh Mahr stopped the lone shot on target he faced in the first half to preserve the clean sheet.
  • Le Moyne doubled its lead in the 66th minute as freshman Michael Sparkes took the ball from near the halfway line and made a long run past Stonehill's defense and inside the 18 on the left channel, before depositing a low shot into the right side of the goal for his second marker of the season.
  • Junior Andrew Hammersley finished with six saves in goal for Stonehill, marking his tenth match with five plus saves this season – giving him 19 matches over 29 career appearances with more than five stops.

Stonehill (6-8-1, 3-6-1 NE10) now closes out the regular season with a pair of road matches, starting Saturday at Saint Michael's College at 2:30 p.m. Le Moyne (9-5-0, 6-4-0 NE10) visits the University of New Haven on Saturday at 7 p.m.
