Earley might have the best job in the world.
"I think it would be tough to argue with that, really," he
smiles.
The Maine native and recent Stonehill College grad
gets paid to vacation - the first ever "inn-bedded resorter" at the
Balsams Grand Resort. He beat out hundreds of other
applicants from around the globe to spend the summer nestled into
one of New Hampshire's northernmost and oldest hotels.
"I experience everything the Balsams has to offer and then I blog
about it, tweet about it, facebook about it. I use all sorts of
social media to bring that experience to the world."
There's no shortage of material. Between now and the end of the
summer Martin will bike, hike, and enjoy his way throughout the
resorts' 8,000 acres.
Martin's 1,200 followers seem most interested, though, in his meals
- from the buffet lunch spreads to decadent five course dinners
"I'll post the menu online and just say, hey what would you like me
to try?"
The position keeps this social media hound connected 24-7 in a
place where guests are forced to disconnect from most modern
technologies.
Long time employee and current Golf and Tennis Director Rick Toland
says there are "not a lot of television sets, but the idea is to
get away, enjoy a good book, enjoy outside activities. It's a
throw back to the good old times."
The resorter agrees, "everything's very old school, I guess I would
say."
And it's Martin's task to make the old school appeal to a crowd
that might not otherwise think to log off for a while.
