American International Ends Stonehill Run, 5-2
Yellow Jackets net first three goals to hand Skyhawks first defeat
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 9, 2009) - American International College scored the first three goals of the match and never looked back in posting a 5-2 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at John Homer Miller Field today.
Sophomore Tim Britt (North Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) registered a goal and assist for American International, while freshman Conor Doyle (Douglas, Ireland) dished two assists. The Yellow Jackets also got single goals from seniors Ohionameh Aregbeyen (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan CC) and Leo Santos (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and juniors Alan Johnathan (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke).

Senior Ryan Brooks-Newman (Selkirk, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) made four second half saves in goal for AIC, who finished with a 24-10 advantage in shots for the match. Junior Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) stopped a season-high eight shots for Stonehill.
American International set the tone early, taking the lead just 2:03 into the contest when Aregbeyen got on the end of a cross from Doyle and headed it past McFarlane for the opening goal. The Yellow Jackets doubled their lead just over five minutes before halftime when Britt converted a free kick in the 40th minute. AIC increased its lead to three goals 1:44 into the second half as Doyle set up Johnathan off a set piece.
Stonehill broke through at 75:55 when Keeley tipped in a cross by sophomore Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional). AIC had an immediate answer when Britt set up Stevenson for a goal a mere 20-seconds after Keeley's tally. Santos netted an unassisted goal in the 84th minute for the Yellow Jackets, before Campagnano capped the scoring for the Skyhawks with just 1:56 to play.
Stonehill (4-1-0, 0-1-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts The College of Saint Rose for an NE-10 matchup at 1 p.m. American International (2-3-0, 1-1-0 NE-10) travels to LIU-C.W. Post on Saturday at 2 p.m.
