EASTON, Mass. (August 29, 2009) - Stonehill College sophomore Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) fired in a volley with 1:25 left in the first overtime to lift the Skyhawks to a 1-0 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College in non-conference men's soccer action on day two of the 2009 Stonehill Skyhawks Kickoff Classic at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made one second half save to preserve Stonehill's first shutout of the season (the third of his career). McFarlane and the Skyhawks have yet to surrender a goal through two matches in the run of play (188:35), yielding just a penalty kick goal to Felician College on Friday.

Junior goalkeeper Will Camerlingo (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) shined in goal for a second-straight day for Concordia, posting six saves (five second half) this afternoon for a Clippers squad which was down to just 11 dressed players due to injury and suspensions. Stonehill finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots for the match, including a 9-1 margin after halftime.

Sophomore Michael White scored the lone goal of the match in the 99th minute.

White's goal came out of nothing, catching Camerlingo off guard in the 99th minute. Stonehill junior Stephen Day (North Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) slid a pass from the left flank to White who wheeled and fired the volley towards goal while facing the near touchline from 24-yards out, with the ball beating Camerlingo to his right inside the left post.

Stonehill had the better of the scoring chances all day and appeared to get the break they were looking for when the Skyhawks were awarded a penalty kick in the 89th minute after Camerlingo tripped up a Skyhawks player inside the 18. However, senior Shaun Keeley (Woburn, Mass./Woburn) lifted the penalty shot just over the crossbar to keep the match scoreless and headed for overtime.

Stonehill (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10), off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2006, is back in action on Friday when it hosts Mercy College for a non-conference battle at 4:30 p.m. Concordia (0-2-0, 0-0-0 CACC) visits the University of New Haven on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

In today's opening match of the Kickoff Classic, Felician College rebounded from yesterday's 2-1 loss to Stonehill with a 3-1 triumph over The College of Saint Rose. Senior Quincy Small (Linden, Guyana) fired the Falcons to a 3-0 first half lead with the hat trick effort, while junior Jason Smith (Gibbstown, N.J./GCIT) made seven saves in goal to preserve the victory. Junior Anthony Eleftherion (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scored the lone goal for Saint Rose, who finished with a 13-8 advantage for shots in the match.
