Stonehill Falls at Brockport, 7-2

Skyhawks allow season-high seven goals to Golden Eagles

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (January 10, 2014) – The College at Brockport ice hockey team utilized seven different goal scorers and three multi-goal periods to defeat visiting Stonehill College tonight, 7-2, in non-conference action at Tuttle North Ice Arena.

Brockport was led by freshman forward Nick Marinac (Burlington, Ont./Trenton Golden Hawks), who posted a three point effort with one goal and two assists. Entering tonight's action, Marinac ranked second on the Golden Eagles with nine points.

Sophomore forward Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, Ont./Trenton Golden Hawks) and freshman forward Nate Pelligra (Webster, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each registered two assists for Brockport as well.

After falling behind 7-0 early in the third period, Stonehill sophomore forward Thomas Jenkins (Canton, Mass./Williston Northampton) finally got the Skyhawks on the board with the help of freshman forward Brian Higgins (Milton, Mass./Proctor Academy). The assist was the first collegiate point for Higgins.

Stonehill then tacked on another goal with 3:55 remaining in the contest, when sophomore defenseman Brian Furey (Quincy, Mass./BC High) found the back of the net for the first time this season. Classmate Richard Harris (Grand Island, N.Y./Valley Jr. Warriors) provided the assist on Furey's score, giving him 11 points this season.

Brockport was able to build a 4-0 advantage heading into the third with first period goals from sophomore James Ryan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Toronto Lakeshore Patriots) and senior Chris Cangro (Holbrook, N.Y./N.Y. Bobcats), and second period goals from freshman Andrew Parks (Orillia, Ont./Trenton Golden Hawks) and junior Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, N.J./Granite City Lumberjacks).

Junior goaltender Aaron Green (Mt. Albert, Ont./St. Michael's Buzzers) earned the win in net for the Golden Eagles, as he stopped 24 of the 26 shots that he saw. Stonehill junior netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) played the first two periods, making 14 saves while allowing four goals, before freshman Joshua Hickey (Pittsburgh, Pa./Whitby Fury) was sent out for the third period.

Stonehill (6-7-0, 3-0-0 Northeast-10) will be right back in action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. contest at Nazareth College. The Skyhawks return home to the Foxboro Sports Center on Saturday, January 25th against NE-10 rival Southern New Hampshire University. Brockport (4-8-2, 1-4-1 SUNYAC) returns to the ice next Saturday, when the Golden Eagles host Utica College.
