Johnson & Wales Tops Stonehill, 6-2

Sophomore Richard Harris scored a goal for the fifth time in his last five games in Stonehill's 6-2 loss at Johnson & Wales tonight.

Dorgan extends point streak to 10 games

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (December 7, 2013) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team allowed five unanswered goals after tying the game at one en route to a 6-2 defeat tonight at Johnson & Wales University in non-conference action at Lynch Arena.

Despite the loss, sophomore forward Richard Harris (Grand Island, N.Y./Valley Jr. Warriors) scored a goal for the fifth time in Stonehill's last five games, as his first period score tied tonight's contest at one.

Classmate Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y./Boston Bulldogs) also extended his season-long point streak to ten games with his assist on Harris' goal. Dorgan leads the Northeast-10 with 19 points and also ranks first in the conference with 1.90 points per contest.

Sophomore defenseman Scott Rolph (Bow, N.H./Tilton School) recorded his first point of the season with a goal late in the third period.

Johnson & Wales was led by its top line of freshman Stefan Brucato (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Idaho Steelheads) and sophomores Cody Sarmiento (Sarasota, Fla./Jamestown Ironmen) and Josh Obregon (Omaha, Neb./Odessa Jackalopes).

Brucato, Sarmiento, and Obregon each registered three points, with Obregon's coming on two goals and an assist, Sarmiento's on one goal and two assists, and Brucato's on three helpers.

The Wildcats opened up the scoring 11:09 into the opening period when Obregon beat Stonehill junior netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) with the help of Brucato and Sarmiento. The Skyhawks responded just 27 seconds later with Harris' sixth tally of the season, but that would be Stonehill's last goal until late in the third period.

Johnson & Wales began its five-goal run at the 14:47 mark of the first period when Sarmiento found the back of the net, and the Wildcats scored again 11 seconds later on senior forward Justin Decowski's (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Cyclones) second goal of the season, which would prove to be the game winner.

Obregon netted his second score of the game 13:54 into the middle period to give the home team a 4-1 lead, and then junior forward Jason Healey (Goshen, N.Y./New Jersey Hitmen) upped the Wildcats' lead to 5-1 19 seconds before the second intermission.

Johnson & Wales would add one more score on a power play midway through the third period, and Rolph tallied his goal at the 14:17 mark to close the scoring.

Following tonight's contest, Stonehill (5-5-0, 3-0-0 NE-10) returns home to the Foxboro Sports Center for two contests next week before taking a month hiatus for Winter break. Stonehill will host the Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, and Westfield State College on Wednesday night at the same time. Johnson & Wales (7-3-0, 3-2-0 ECAC) will be back on the ice next Friday night against Buffalo State.
