Stonehill Bounces Back Against Assumption, 3-0

Sophomore Robbie Dorgan scored his fourth goal of the season to seal Stonehill's 3-0 shutout of Assumption tonight.

Skyhawks improve to 2-0 in Northeast-10

FOXBORO, Mass. (November 13, 2013) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team utilized three different goal scorers and a 20-save shutout by junior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) to snap a two-game losing streak, as Stonehill defeated Assumption College 3-0 tonight in Northeast-10 action at the Foxboro Sports Center.

One game after stopping 42 shots in a losing effort, Tasiopoulos was again impressive between the pipes, as he turned away all 20 shots that came his way, including a second period penalty shot by Assumption's Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge). The junior's shutout was the second of his career, as he posted one as a freshman in 2011-12.

After a scoreless opening period in which Stonehill squandered a five on three power play opportunity, the Skyhawks struck first midway through the second period on sophomore forward Dan Graham's (Billerica, Mass./Williston Northampton School) first goal of the season. Graham's tally would prove to be the game winner.

Stonehill doubled its advantage with under a minute remaining in the middle period, when sophomore forward Willy Baker (Suffern, N.Y./Hill School) beat Assumption sophomore goaltender Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn./Worcester Academy), with the help of assists from sophomore forward Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, N.J./Morristown Beard School) and senior defenseman Andrew Miller (Oxford, Conn./Kent School).

Despite giving up three goals in a losing effort, Hemhauser did his best to keep the Greyhounds in the contest, as he made 48 saves, including 20 in the final period. Hemhauser started in place of senior goaltender Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-Northampton), who has won consecutive Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Week awards.

Stonehill added one more goal in the third period off the stick of sophomore forward Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y./Boston Bulldogs) to give the Skyhawks a three goal cushion. Dorgan's score was good for his team-leading fourth of the season, as he now has eight points in 2013.

Junior forward Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy), sophomore defenseman Scott Rolph (Bow, N.H./Tilton School), and junior forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass./Walpole Express) each added assists in tonight's contest to help Stonehill improve to 2-0 in Northeast-10 action.

Stonehill (2-2-0, 2-0-0 NE-10) returns to the ice next Tuesday, as the Skyhawks are set to travel to New York to take on SUNY Canton in a 4 p.m. faceoff. Stonehill then returns to the Foxboro Sports Center on November 26th for a contest with Wesleyan University. Assumption (1-2-1, 0-1-1 NE-10) will look to get back on track on Saturday at Babson College, before returning to conference play on November 23rd at Southern New Hampshire University.
