Women's Tennis Finishes with Win at New Haven, 4-1

MILFORD, Conn. (April 15, 2023) – Stonehill College closed outs its inaugural NCAA Division I season with a 4-1 victory over former Northeast-10 Conference foe University of New Haven inside the Milford Tennis Center this afternoon.

  • Seniors Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao led a trio of double-winners for Stonehill in their final collegiate matches.
  • Freshman Anneliese Beltran rounded out Stonehill's double winners in the match.
  • Senior Katherine MacPhail earned a point for New Haven, finishing off a back and forth 6-4, 0-6, 12-10 triumph at No. 4 singles against Stonehill senior Lily Peter.

How It Happened

  • Stonehill swept the three doubles matches to earn its first point as freshman Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and sophomore Marisa Such wrapped up the point with their 6-3 decision at No. 3 after Antao and Peter clinched a win at No. 2 doubles by a break.
  • Solorzano Valencia and Beltran survived a 7-6 (7-4) triumph at No. 1 doubles to finish of the sweep.
  • Beltran posted Stonehill's first singles point without dropping a game on her way to a straight sets win at No. 3 singles against New Haven senior Kacie Banks.
  • Antao followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against sophomore Karim Carreras to pull the Skyhawks within a point of the win.
  • Solorzano Valencia finished off the match win with her 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over freshman Valentinna Ferrarini.
