Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day with Bentley Win, 7-0

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2023) – Stonehill College honored its three seniors playing in their final home match of the season with a 7-0 triumph over Bentley University in a non-conference women's tennis match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Seniors Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao led four double-winners on the courts in their Senior Day match.
  • The duo, along with classmate Lily Peter were all honored following the match for their contributions to the women's tennis program at Stonehill. The trio have been part of two Northeast-10 Conference Championships, two NE10 Championship match appearances and two NCAA Division II Tournament bids over their career, leading the program's transition to NCAA Division I status this season.
  • Freshmen Anneliese Beltran and Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez were also double-winners for the Skyhawks in matches competed on the courts.
  • Sophomore Marissa Such also earned a point for Stonehill with her win at No. 5 singles after she and classmate Jenna Gustafson won by default in doubles play.

How It Happened

  • Stonehill swept the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the afternoon, with Solorzano Valencia and Beltran clinching with their 6-1 victory at No. 1, while Antao and Zuluaga Rodriguez won by the same score at No. 2.
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez drew Stonehill within a point of clinching the match win with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles against Bentley sophomore Chloe Arsenault.
  • Antao provided the match-clinching point with her 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles over junior Anna Lang.
  • Such and Solorzano Valencia followed with their wins at No. 5 and No. 1 singles, respectively.
  • Beltran rallied from a set down to record a 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 triumph at No. 3 singles over senior Zoe Chin.

Stonehill (5-7, 0-4 NEC) is back in action next Saturday, when it visits Saint Francis (Pa.) University for a Northeast Conference dual match at 11 a.m. Bentley (4-13, 3-6 NE10) visits Holy Cross on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
