SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 14, 2022) – Bryant University dealt Stonehill College its first defeat of the season with a 7-0 decision at Bryant Tennis Courts this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Sophomore Caitlyn Munson, freshman Natalia Vela and junior Olivia Rondini led four double-winners for Bryant in the match.
  • Senior Manuela Gomez Estrada rounded out the Bulldogs double-winners, while freshmen Lisa Marie Dugec and Lucia Pino delivered a singles point.
  • Sophomore Marissa Such and freshman Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez combined to win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill.

How it Happened

  • Bryant won the top two doubles flights, dropping just three games over the two matches, to earn the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
  • Stonehill captured the No. 3 doubles position, as Zuluaga and Such posted a 7-5 decision over Dugec and Pino.
  • Bryant won five of the six singles matches to pull out the decision, as the Bulldogs dropped just six games in total in their wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles that clinched the victory.
  • Two matches went to a super tiebreaker third set after the two competitors split the first two. Dugec held off Stonehill freshman Anneliese Beltran 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 4 singles, while Pino edged Zuluaga Rodriguez 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 6.

Stonehill (3-1, 0-0 NEC) is back in action this weekend, when it participates in the Wellesley College Invitational, hosted at Wellesley and Babson College, on Friday through Sunday. Bryant (1-0) visits the UConn Invitational over the weekend.
