WORCESTER, Mass. (September 3, 2022) – Stonehill College opened its inaugural NCAA Division I season with a win over an old Northeast-10 Conference foe, defeating Assumption University 6-1 in a non-conference women's tennis match at Assumption Tennis Courts today.

Highlights

Senior Cristina Solorzano Valencia led Stonehill to the win by posting victories at No. 1 singles and doubles as the lone double-winner on the courts today.
Freshman Annaliese Beltran earned a win at No. 2 singles in her collegiate debut, while junior Lindsay Macdonald and sophomore Jenna Gustafson also added singles wins for Stonehill, which also collected a pair of default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles in the match.
Senior Aimee Figgins posted Assumption's point with a victory at No. 3 singles, dropping just one game over the two set decision.

How it Happened

Stonehill clinched the doubles point with Solorzano Valencia and senior Steffi Antao combining for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Figgins pulled Assumption back within 2-1 after Stonehill picked up a second point with its walkover at No. 6 singles by posting a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles over Stonehill sophomore Gabrielle Lindsay.
Gustafson pulled Stonehill within a point of the match win with her 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles against Assumption sophomore Elizabeth McGeer.
Solorzano Valencia provided the match-clinching point for Stonehill with her 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles over junior Caitlin Sze.
Macdonald and Beltran followed with their wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Beltran held on to take the second set 6-4 to clinch the win in her collegiate debut after taking the first set 6-2, over Assumption senior Cara McCormack at No. 2.
