MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 30, 2021) - Stonehill College rode a two-goal performance from senior Camryn Thompson to a 3-2 triumph over Saint Anselm College, ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II East Region rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Grappone Stadium tonight.

The Details

  • Thompson's brace is her third multi-goal match of the season (fourth career) and staked Stonehill out to a two-goal lead before holding on over the final 20 minutes.
  • Thompson has now scored ten goals in a season for the first time in her career. She also moves into ninth on Stonehill's career scoring list with 62 points, while her 27 career goals rank seventh all-time.
  • Sophomore Mia Jackson finished with a career-high matching four saves to preserve the win in goal for Stonehill, including a fully extended stop to her left on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to keep the match scoreless at the time, and proved critical down the stretch.
  • Thompson scored the only goal of the first half just 10:42 into the match with a special individual effort, unleashing a long-range blast from the left channel after a long carry through midfield.
  • She doubled the Stonehill lead 8:06 into the second half with a rebound off an initial shot off the crossbar by senior Megan Giambanco to kickstart the four goal half.
  • After Jackson's stop on a penalty kick try by sophomore Olivia Gotobed, Saint Anselm was able to break through four minutes later when Gotobed assisted on senior Regan Pratt's third goal of the year in the 74th minute.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as Stonehill had an immediate response when junior Emma Slade released classmate Lauren Clement behind the Saint Anselm defense for her second goal of the year less than two minutes later.
  • Saint Anselm was still able to pull back within a goal at the 84-minute mark with freshman Riley DiGilio's first collegiate goal on a one-touch off a long ball on a free kick from sophomore Tara McCleary.
  • Junior Kate Macaluso (Malverne, New York/Kellenberg Memorial) finished with three saves in the Saint Anselm goal.
