EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2021) – Stonehill College junior back Peyton Nickerson has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer by the league office today.

Nickerson earns NE10 Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after leading Stonehill on both ends of the pitch in a 2-0 week. She led a defensive effort that yielded just one goal, while allowing eight shots per match, including four per game on goal, with a shutout for the week. Nickerson also netted the first two goals of her collegiate career, including the matchwinning goal of Sunday's 2-0 win over Queens (N.Y.) College, while spearheading a defensive unit that limited the Knights to nine shots, including four on target, in posting the clean sheet while playing the last half hour a player down. Nickerson also scored the opening goal in Friday night's eventual 2-1 overtime win against the University of New Haven to open the NE10 season.

In addition to netting the first two goals of her career last week, she dished out an assist during his freshman season for a total of five career points. Nickerson's two goals this season are good for fourth among NE10 scoring leaders, while Stonehill ranks seventh in the Conference with a 1.33 team goals against average.

The biology major has been named to the Dean's List all four semesters to date, as well as the NE10 Academic Honor Roll, with Academic Distinction status for having a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 all four semesters, along with the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Nickerson is enrolled in the Moreau Honors Program at Stonehill and is secretary of the Pre-Health Society, vice president of the Make-A-Wish club and represents the women's soccer program on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Stonehill (2-1-0, 1-0-0 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday night when it visits Franklin Pierce University for an NE10 match at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks close the week out on Saturday at Le Moyne College at noon, before returning home to host Saint Michael's College next Tuesday, September 21, at 4 p.m.
