Penmen stay unbeaten despite Thompson brace for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (September 29, 2021) – Sophomore Alyssa Anderson's fourth goal of the season 2:48 into overtime lifted Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 14 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, to a 3-2 overtime triumph over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Skyhawk Field this afternoon.

How it Happened

  • Anderson's winner 2:48 into overtime broke up over an hour of scoreless play between the two sides after combining for four goals in the opening half hour of the match.
  • Senior Camryn Thompson scored both goals to lead the way for Stonehill, answering SNHU markers each time.
  • Anderson scored the winner off a failed clearing attempt by the Stonehill defense on a cross from the right side. She collected the loose ball and fired a low shot into the right side of the goal for her fourth goal of the season.
  • Junior Allison Beaumont opened the scoring 11:27 into the match against the run of play to that point, when she got on the end of a cross by senior Sydney Carney for a shot from the center of the 18 into the right side of the goal for her second goal of the season.

    Thompson's first equalizer came less than two minutes later when she broke down the left side of the field and cut into the upper left corner of the 18 before firing a right-footed shot into the right side of the goal at 13:24.
  • SNHU regained the lead less than four minutes later when junior Jordan Butters collected a Stonehill turnover outside the 18 and delivered a shot from the right channel into the upper left corner of the goal for her third goal of the season at 17:09.
  • Thompson leveled the match once again with 15:38 remaining in the half when she headed in a pass from the left side by sophomore Emmy Dumaresq from close range for her third goal of the year.
  • Sophomore Z Kaplan registered three saves in the SNHU goal, while junior Hanna Copley finished with two stops for Stonehill.

Noteworthy

  • Thompson's two goals this afternoon give her 20 for her career, having added eight assists for 48 points in 48 career matches played.
