Sullivan Highlights NE10 Postseason Honors as Northeast Division Midfielder of the Year

EASTON, Mass. (May 5, 2021) – Stonehill College junior midfielder Emma Sullivan has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Northeast Division Midfielder of the Year by the league coaches to highlight a pair of postseason selections the Conference announced on Tuesday.

Sullivan is Stonehill's first Midfielder of the Year since Kelsey Reilly, '13 earned the honors in the first year of the award's existence in 2013. Sullivan also earned a spot on the All-Northeast-10 third team, while freshman Molly Mae Hughes was named to the NE10's All-Rookie Team. Sullivan gives Stonehill 113 All-NE10 selections in program history, while Hughes is the 14th All-Rookie pick since that program started in 2009.

Sullivan, an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman in 2019, earns All-NE10 and Midfielder of the Year honors for the first time. She started all nine games for Stonehill this spring and finished third on the team with 26 points, while her 21 goals are second on the team, to go with six assists. She tallied a team-high 50 draw controls (5th NE10) and 24 ground balls, while adding nine caused turnovers to rank second on the team. She ranks second in the NE10 and 23rd nationally in Division II with her 5.6 draw controls per game, while ranking fifth with 2.7 ground balls per game.

Sullivan totaled a career-best six points with a career-high matching five goals and an assist in Stonehill's 21-5 win at Southern New Hampshire University on March 24. She scored multiple goals in six of her nine games played, adding four in a 16-5 home win over SNHU on April 24. Sullivan collected a career-high 11 draw controls against Franklin Pierce University on March 17, while she also added five ground balls, two caused turnovers and three goals.

Sullivan has started 29 of 31 games over her Stonehill career, totaling 60 goals and 15 assists for 75 points, with 59 ground balls, 85 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers. She received the College's "Spring Breakout Sophomore" Award in 2020 and has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom.

Hughes collects All-Rookie honors following an impressive freshman season that saw her in the starting lineup all ten games. She finished fourth on the team in scoring with 23 points, ranking second with 11 assists to go with 12 goals, contributing 17 ground balls, eight draws and two caused turnovers.

Hughes, named the NE10 Rookie of the Week once this season, got her career off to a flying start by establishing a season-high with four points and three goals in the season-opener against Franklin Pierce on March 17, adding an assist and caused turnover. She matched that point total in a win over Saint Michael's College on April 13, with three goals and an assist, and two ground balls. She dished out a season-best three assists in back-to-back wins over Southern New Hampshire on March 24, and against then No. 15 Assumption University on April 3. Hughes was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll after the first semester for her efforts in the classroom.

Stonehill finished its 2021 season fifth in the NE10's Northeast Division with a 4-6 record overall and in the NE10. In addition to the postseason accolades above, the Skyhawks season was highlighted by a 10-9 victory over then No. 15-ranked Assumption University at W.B. Mason Stadium on April 3. Stonehill fifth-year Bailey Grant and senior Kaleigh Wright earned NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks, with Grant also being named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Defensive Player of the Week on April 7.
