Grant Named IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week

Chelmsford, Massachusetts, fifth-year goalkeeper adds national award for first time in her career after collecting NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors

EASTON, Mass. (April 7, 2021) – Stonehill College fifth-year goalkeeper Bailey Grant has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced.

Grant, who collected Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the fourth time in her career on Monday, receives the national coaches' organization's weekly award for the first time. She backboned the Stonehill defensive effort in a 10-9 triumph over Assumption University, ranked No. 15 in last week's IWLCA Division II poll, on Saturday in its lone game of the week. Grant posted a season-high 14 saves to preserve the Skyhawks win, chipping in with a career and team-high seven ground balls. She recorded ten of her 14 stops in the first half, conceding five goals, to keep Stonehill within one at the break. It marks the 18th double-figure save performance of her career.

Grant has appeared in all four games for Stonehill this season, starting three, and recording a 9.69 goals against average and .520 save percentage, while averaging 6.5 saves per game, in 148:40. She has also collected a team-high ten ground balls to date, ranking sixth in the NE10 for goals against average, fifth in save percentage (16th nationally in Division II) and tenth in saves per game.

Grant, named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2017, has started 53 of her 57 games played over her Stonehill career. She has totaled 433 saves to rank third all-time in program history – 15 behind Stonehill Athletic Hall of Famer Carissa Medeiros, '03 (448) for second all-time. Grant has recorded 28 career wins in the Skyhawks goal, with an 11.47 goals against average and .438 save percentage in 2,908:56.

Stonehill (2-2, 2-2 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday for the first of two games at W.B. Mason Stadium this week, when it hosts rival Bentley University, ranked No. 14 in this week's IWLCA Division II poll, at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks host No. 21 Saint Anselm College on Saturday for a makeup of last week's postponed game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Fans from off campus are not permitted to attend in conjunction with the current Stonehill and NE10 spectator policy, but the games will be available via SkyhawksVision on NE10 NOW. In addition to watching online, viewers will also be able to watch the action live on their televisions through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku by downloading the NE10 NOW app.
