Petford

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2024) – Stonehill College women's ice hockey sophomore forward Alexis Petford has been named a New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star for Division I Women's Ice Hockey, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Petford is just one of two student-athletes from the New England Women's Hockey Alliance to earn an NEHWA All-Star selection. She joins the conference leader in scoring, Natalie Tulchinsky, from Saint Anselm College.

The Balgonie, Saskatchewan native had a solid sophomore season, posting a team-high 20 goals and 15 assists for 35 total points. Petford's 20 lamplighters, seven power-play goals, and 188 shots ranked her atop the league leaderboards in the NEWHA. The sophomore forward was also named to the All-NEWHA First team for the second straight season and was recognized as the Player of the Month in the conference during January, where she registered eight points off six goals and a pair of assists.

Petford's offensive prowess was a driving force behind her team's historic achievements. Her six goals in the playoffs, including three game-winners, were crucial in securing the team's first-ever NEWHA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. At the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, Petford etched her name in the team's record books by scoring the Skyhawks' first-ever goal in an NCAA Tournament game against #6 Cornell.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Lee-J Mirasolo, Stonehill College's women's ice hockey program had a standout sophomore season. The team finished with a 21-16-2 overall record, clinching the NEWHA Championship crown and securing a spot in the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. The team's collective effort was evident in their top-15 national rankings in multiple categories, including goals, penalty kill percentage, power-play goals, short-handed goals, team points, team saves, and winning percentage.
