How it Happened

  • Despite Stonehill dominating offensive possession early, outshooting the Purple Knights 11-1 over the first six minutes of action, SMC would strike the scoreboard first at the 6:18 mark of the opening frame on the power play.

  • Stonehill would grab its first lead of the conference matchup 14:10 into the first when Petford deked through defenders and sent a shot over the shoulder of Lavender in net to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Geist extended the Skyhawks lead to 3-1 at the 6:36 mark of the second period after capitalizing on a perfect slot pass from Achtyl behind the net.
  • Petford would find the back of the net for the second time on the power play in two periods after rocketing a shot from above the circles and past the Purple Knights netminder to give Stonehill a three-goal lead just over midway through the second.
  • The Skyhawks continued their offensive dominance in the third period, outshooting SMC 16-6 over the final 20 minutes and securing the 4-1 victory over the Purple Knights.
