Women's Hockey Falls in Series Finale Against Lindenwood

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (November 25, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team dropped its Thanksgiving weekend series finale to Lindenwood, 6-2, on Saturday. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 7-11 overall, while the Lions improve to 7-8-1 on the season.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Alexis Petford is now tied for the team-lead after scoring her sixth goal of the season, while sophomore Kathryn Karo netted her third of the campaign.
  • Sophomore goaltender Eve Stone tallied 33 saves in goal for the Skyhawks.
  • Junior Morgan Neitke led the Lions with three points off a pair of goals and an assist, while graduate student Rachel Goff and sophomore Sarah Davies tallied two points each for Lindenwood.
  • First-year netminder Ava McIllmurray picked up the win in net after stopping 18 of her 20 shots faced in between the pipes.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill wasted little time jumping out to an early one goal advantage after Slocum threaded the Lions defense with a cross-ice pass to Petford who slapped a one-timer into the back of the net just three minutes into the contest.
  • Lindenwood would respond exactly two minutes after the games opening score as Davies scored on the power play to tie the game up at 1-1.
  • Following the early equalizer, Stonehill kept up its offensive pressure as Karo lit the lamp with a wrist shot over the left shoulder of the Lions netminder to regain the Skyhawks one goal lead with 12:30 left in the first.
  • However, at the 13:20 mark of the opening frame, Lindenwood would respond once again with a goal off the backhand from Grabianowski.
  • The Lions came out of the first intermission strong, taking their first lead of the match after Goff netted her ninth goal of the season at the 2:22 mark of the middle frame.
  • Neitzke would tack two more goals on the board throughout the remainder of the second period to give Lindenwood a commanding 5-2 lead heading into the third.
  • Throughout the third period, the Lions would continue their offensive pressure, netting one final goal at the 3:54 mark of the third period to seal the, 6-2, victory over the Skyhawks.

Noteworthy

  • Sophomore Brianna Walkom as well as first-year duo Pusle Dyring-Andersen and Makenna Slocum each recorded assists for Stonehill.
  • Stonehill edged Lindenwood out 28-26 inside the faceoff circle.
  • The Lions and Skyhawks are now tied at two games apiece in the all-time series.
