Women's Hockey Drops 4-2 Decision at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 11, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team dropped a tough 4-2 decision in the weekend finale against Sacred Heart University on Saturday. With the loss, the Skyhawks dip to 7-7-0 overall and 7-3-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers improve to 4-9-0 overall and 3-5-0 against conference opponents on the year.

Highlights

  • Freshman Peyton Wise scored her second career goal for the Skyhawks, while junior Josie Mendeszoon extended her single-season career high mark after netting her fourth goal of the season.
  • Sophomore goaltender Eve Stone got the start and made 24 saves in goal for Stonehill.
  • Sophomore Iyla Ryskamp led the Pioneers with a pair of goals on the afternoon.
  • Junior netminder Carly Greene picked up the win in between the pipes for Sacred Heart after stopping 24 of her 26 shots faced.

How it Happened

  • After an even opening 19 minutes of action in the first period, Stonehill would get the scoring started within the final 30 seconds of the frame, as Wise redirected a shot off the point from freshman Pusle Dyring-Andersen into the back of the net.
  • At the 5:10 mark of the middle period, Mendeszoon fired a shot at the net that was redirected off a defender and into the goal, extending the Skyhawks advantage to 2-0 early in the second.
  • However, Sacred Heart responded less than five minutes after Ryskamp cut the deficit in half with her first of two goals on the day.
  • The Pioneers would continue to apply offensive pressure throughout the third period, tacking three more goals on the board to seal the 4-2 victory over the Skyhawks.
