EASTON, Mass. (February 2, 2024) – For her outstanding offensive performance throughout the Stonehill women's ice hockey team's eight games in January, sophomore forward Alexis Petford was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance's (NEWHA) Player of the Month. The official announcement from the organization came on Friday afternoon. It is Petford's first monthly award and second overall recognition this season.

Petford joins first-year defender Pusle Dyring-Andersen as a NEWHA monthly award winner. Dyring-Andersen earned October Defender of the Month distinctions earlier this season.

The sophomore forward just two weeks ago earned her first NEWHA weekly distinction of the season after her stellar four-point weekend against conference opponent Saint Michael's College. Most recently, Petford has been lighting up the score sheet, registering a goal in four straight games dating back to the series opener against the Purple Knights on January 19.

The native of Balgonie, Saskatchewan, propelled the Skyhawks' comeback effort during Stonehill's most recent two-game series against conference rival Sacred Heart University. Petford netted a pair of power-play and game-tying goals to help force overtime and earn her team two points in the NEWHA conference standings.

Petford tallied six goals and dished out a pair of assists through the eight games played in January to help lead her squad to an overall record of 5-1-2. On the season, Petford ranks in the top five in the NEWHA in goals (12), assists (12), and points (24) while leading the league with total shots (135) and game-tying goals (2).

Stonehill (13-13-2, 13-7-2 NEWHA) is in action this weekend, facing off against reigning NEWHA champion Long Island University in a two-game series. Puck drop of Friday's series opener between the Skyhawks and Sharks is set for 3 p.m. at the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
