The Details

  • Saint Anselm started off the scoring when the Hawks forced a turnover on Stonehill's side of the ice and Huson took the puck and sent a shot on net. Despite Hanafin making the save, Tulchinsky corralled the rebound and put her shot past Hanafin for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Despite not scoring in the first, Stonehill responded early in the second when Carey swung the puck up to Petford who sent a great cross pass through Hawks defenders and Whaley generated her own offense and put the puck past Kelley and evened the game at one.
  • Stonehill had great looks for the go-ahead goal with 6:30 left in the second when the Purple and White generated a power play opportunity. During the extra skater advantage, the Skyhawks peppered Kelley with four straight shots and three came from the stick of Lucie Turcotte
  • As the second period came to an end, Saint Anselm had their chances at the go-ahead goal when Gracee Donovan was on a breakaway but Hanafin stonewalled her. Shortly after, Husson stole a pass on the Hawks side and pushed up ice, and riffled a shot on Hanafin but the freshman came up with another clutch save and kept the Skyhawks tied at one.

  • The Hawks grabbed the 2-1 lead just 3:47 into the final period when Sullivan at one crease, received a pass from Webber at the other crease which allowed Sullivan to get the puck past Hanafin. The Hawks tacked on an insurance goal 11:02 into the third courtesy of Turner when she forced a turnover in the Stonehill zone.
  • In today's contest, Hanafin made her collegiate debut and she finished with 26 saves. Both she and Zukow finished with at least 20 saves in their Stonehill debuts.
  • Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm by a 31-29 margin which included a 14-8 advantage in the second.
