The Details

  • Neither side found the back of the net in the opening period and despite Brown taking 16 (14 on-target) shots, Zukow made sure to stop each one of them and kept the squad within striking distance.
  • The Bears also generated three powerplay opportunities and took five shots between the powerplays, but strong defense and goaltending held the Bears scoreless on the extra skater advantage.
  • Stonehill also had their fair share of chances in the first period including an early shot less than five minutes in (04:48) from Hannah Squires but saw her attempt turned away by Doyle. The Skyhawks other chance to score came at 12:22 when Gracie Sacca put a shot on net but also saw her attempt turned away.
  • Not even a minute into the second half (00:50), Brown scored the contest's first goal after Iginla corralled a loose puck in front of the net off a Maddie Morgan shot attempt. The Purple and White had a chance to even the game when Sydney Russell ripped a shot on net, but Doyle came up with the big time save.
  • After Brown's goal, both sides played strong defensively and as the third got underway, Stonehill responded and tied the contest at one. Brown turned the puck over in their zone and Petford sent the puck up to Achtyl who sent her shot past Doyle.
  • Just a little over a minute later, the Bears retook the lead when Huard snuck the puck past Zukow after she received a pass from Ciarrocchi. For the rest of the contest, it looked like Brown would hold on for the 2-1 win, however, with just a little under two minutes remaining (1:10), Stonehill head coach, Tara Watchorn pulled Zukow for the extra skater advantage. With Zukow off the ice, Walkom put a shot on towards the net and Petford was in the right place where she deflected the puck by Doyle.
  • In overtime, Stonehill had a chance right away (00:52) for the game-winner when Josie Mendeszoon put a shot on net that was stopped by Doyle. Brown had a chance for the game-winning goal toward the end of overtime with 24 seconds left when Cameron Sikich sent a shot towards Zukow but she turned the attattemptay and held on for the 2-2 tie.
  • Overall on the day, Zukow set a new career-high with 42 saves and she has now finished with 25 or more saves in three of her starts.
