The Details

  • Stonehill's offense started out quickly as the squad peppered Browning with 11 shots compared to Post's one in the first 11 minutes.
  • At the 10:08 mark, the Skyhawks generated their first powerplay opportunity thanks to an Eagles tripping penalty. Then at 8:32 after Barrett sent a pass up to Whaley, the freshman forward swung the puck over to Turcotte who buried her shot past Glasrud for the 1-0 lead. Turcotte's power-play goal was not only the first goal of her career, but it also marked Stonehill's first-ever power-play goal in program history.
  • After the goal, Stonehill's defense and Zukow kept the Eagles at bay by allowing just three shots all stopped by Zukow.
  • Just a little under six minutes in the frame (14:04), the Skyhawks had yet another power play opportunity and once again capitalized. Barrett once again found herself involved in a scoring play after she got the puck over to Whaley in front of the net who snuck the puck past Glasrud and doubled the Skyhawk lead (2-0). Whaley's goal is the first in her collegiate career.
  • Later in the second, Stonehill generated their third power play chance and Carey swung the puck over to Sacca who sniped a shot in the upper left side which made it 3-0.
  • Despite Post going on the powerplay early in the third (16:09), Stonehill found the back of the net on a short-handed opportunity. Petford corraled a loose puck from Karo's missed shot and put it past Glasrud's glove side to make it 4-0.
  • Post tacked on two goals in the third but it was not enough as the Skyhawks held on for the 4-2 win. Stonehill's win Saturday now puts the Skyhawks in first place in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance standings.
  • With her 17 saves on the day, Zukow has now finished with 15 or more saves in three of her four last starts.
  • Overall, Stonehill outshot Post by a 26-19 margin and in back-to-back games, the Skyhawks have posted 25 or more shots.

Meyers' Musings

"It was awesome. It was everything that we hoped this weekend would come to be," said Stonehill women's ice hockey assistant coach, Megan Meyers. "I think yesterday was a tough game, I think it was a struggle a little bit at the beginning but we came back, we were very resilient. We changed the lineups a bunch today, and tried some new combos, tried some new things out and I think they just worked together and communicated. We're excited about every weekend. Obviously, every weekend's a new opponent for us and I'm hoping that you know, the special teams continue what it's doing. It's been looking amazing and I think the girls are just as excited with some confidence to go in the next weekend coming off the sweep. Every weekend's an opportunity to play hockey and I think that's what we're most excited for."
