The Details

  • The first period was back and forth nonstop as Stonehill slightly outshot Saint Michael's, 8-6. The Skyhawks had a great opportunity when they drew a powerplay chance at 06:59 and sent two shots on Purple Knights goalie, Carissa Mudrak but she turned away both attempts.
  • Zukow also had her fair share of action in the first as she faced six shots and turned back all of Saint Michael's attempts.
  • As the second half got underway, the Skyhawks finally broke the scoreless draw with the eventual game-winning goal off the stick of Whaley (04:04). After Barrett shot the puck up to Feeney, she skated to the right face-off circle and sent a centering pass through the Purple Knights defense to Whaley who snuck the puck past Mudrak for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Zukow continued her stellar play in net to help maintain the shutout as she stopped both shots that came her way.
  • Saint Michael's threatened in the third at 12:04 when Lauren Fisher put a shot on net, but Zukow made the clutch save. Shortly after at 14:07, the Skyhawks grabbed another powerplay opportunity and Mendeszoon doubled the Purple and White's lead with just over six minutes to go. Barret swung a pass toward Saint Michael's net where Mendeszoon was waiting for the tip in and with her goal, it is the first of her collegiate career.
  • After Stonehill's goal, Zukow made two more saves to end the night with 12 stops. Thanks to her strong play in net, Zukow notched her first-ever shutout and has now finished with 10 or more saves in all five of her starts.
  • Overall on the night, the Skyhawks outshot the Purple Knights by a 34-12 margin which tied a program best.
