Moore double-double leads Red Flash, who erase seven-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime on way to second-straight win

LORETTO, Pa. (February 2, 2023) – Saint Francis (Pa.) University erased a seven-point deficit with less than five minutes to play to force overtime, before securing a 71-70 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast Conference women's basketball action at DeGol Arena tonight.

Junior Aaliyah Moore was one of two from Saint Francis with 18 points, adding a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double as she finished shooting 7-for-13 from the floor, while adding three assists and two blocked shots. Freshman Semaya Turner also scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting off the bench, including 2-for-4 from three, with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Junior Filippa Goula rounded out the Red Flash in double-figures with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Fifth-year Emily Bramanti once again led the way for Stonehill with 22 points on 6-of-15 shooting, converting all seven free-throws, for her third-straight 20-point outing, with three rebounds and three assists as she played all but 31-seconds in the contest. Classmate Sophie Glidden posted her second-straight double-double (third overall) with ten points and a season-high matching 12 rebounds (four offensive) with four assists. Senior Mia Kelly rounded out the double-figure Skyhawks with 11 points, draining all three three-pointers, eight boards and two assists.

Saint Francis trailed by at least seven points in every quarter, while never leading by more than a possession at any point themselves, in securing its second-straight win. The Red Flash led by a point (48-47) after three quarters of play, but Stonehill scored the first eight of the fourth, including five by Kelly, to open another seven-point cushion (55-48) following a Bramanti three two and a half minutes in.

Stonehill's lead was still six (64-58) after a layup from freshman Colleen McCullagh with 4:42 to play when Saint Francis mounted its final comeback. The Red Flash pulled within two (64-62) after two Moore free-throws with 1:23 remaining. Bramanti followed with two free-throws at the other end, but Turner converted a pair at the stripe and then after two missed foul shots from the Skyhawks, freshman Destini Ward knotted the score with a layup that would prove to force the extra session as the visitors were unable to convert after a Glidden steal in the closing seconds.

Stonehill wouldn't score from the field in the overtime session, but held a lead (69-68) after two free-throws from postgrad Maddie Loder halfway through the extra frame. Goula answered that with a layup to push Saint Francis back in front and then she made one of two at the line with 18-seconds to go for a two-point lead (71-69). Sophomore Sharn Hayward was fouled going after a rebound for Stonehill and went to the line with a chance to knot the score again with six-seconds left. She made the first, and missed the second, but Glidden came away with her fourth offensive board, however a three-pointer by Bramanti was off the mark to seal the win for the Red Flash.
