Loder leads three Skyhawks in double-figures with 16 points

WORCESTER, Mass. (December 8, 2022) – College of the Holy Cross made over 76-percent of its shots in the fourth quarter to pull out a 74-62 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference women's basketball matchup at Hart Center Arena tonight.

Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half, including nine in the decisive fourth quarter alone, on 8-of-13 shooting to lead five from Holy Cross in double-figures. She added three rebounds and two assists, while classmate Janelle Allen finished with 16 points, including 11 in the first half, on 6-of-11 shooting, converting 4-of-6 free-throws, to go with four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Lindsay Berger contributed ten points and six rebounds for the Crusaders, who are winners of four-straight.

Postgrad Maddie Loder led three from Stonehill in double-figures with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including ten in the first half, with four assists, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Fifth-year Emily Bramanti added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot, while classmate Sophie Glidden chipped in 10 points and six boards.

Stonehill led through the entirety of the first three quarters, grabbing a quick nine-point lead (13-4), sparked by three-pointers from Loder and junior Cameron Ward, after a jumper from senior Mia Kelly just over three minutes into the contest. The Skyhawks led by as much as seven in the second (25-18), but Holy Cross was able to close within four after each of the first three frames.

A Bramanti three-pointer and Loder jumper restored Stonehill's nine-point lead (42-33) two minutes into the third, but again, Holy Cross trimmed the deficit to four (53-49) heading into the fourth. Loder opened the fourth quarter scoring and the Skyhawks lead was five 90-seconds into the quarter, when the Crusaders marched forward with ten-straight points to claim their first lead of the night (61-56) after a three-pointer from Power-Cassidy four minutes in.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill and Holy Cross were meeting for the fifth time in the two program's history, but the first encounter since 1981, with the Crusaders taking a 3-2 edge in the series that dates back to 1974 with tonight's win.
  • Holy Cross is now 3-0 all-time against Stonehill at home.
  • Bramanti has scored in double-figures in three-straight games and six times this season overall (32 career).
  • Glidden notched her tenth career double-figure scoring effort and led the Skyhawks in rebounding for the seventh time (16th career).
  • Loder's team-high 16 points are just one shy of her season-best at Providence on November 11.
  • Ward finished with a career-best nine points for the Skyhawks.
