PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 11, 2022) – Providence College pulled away in the second half to record a 56-32 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference women's basketball matchup inside Joe Mullaney Gymnasium at Alumni Hall tonight.

Maddie Loder Postgrad, Guard: Season-high 17 points (6-for-16), two rebounds, three assists, steal.

Sophie Glidden Fifth-year, Forward: Game and season-high matching 12 rebounds, four points, two steals. 

Providence
Brynn Farrell Junior, Guard: 12 points (4-for-9, 2-for-5 threes), 7 rebounds, three steals.

Olivia Olsen Sophomore, Forward: 13 points (5-for-8), five rebounds. 

How it Happened

  • Olsen scored the first four points of the game for Providence, but Stonehill fired back with a Loder three-pointer and jumper by Glidden to grab a lead (5-4) after two and a half minutes.
  • Providence followed with seven-straight points to grab a six-point lead (11-5) after a Farrell three-pointer four minutes into the game.

    Stonehill battled back and pulled even (15-15) after a Loder triple with 2:13 remaining in the opening quarter.
  • The Friars scored the final five points of the quarter, including four by postgrad Logan Cook, and then scored the first 11 of the second to open a 16-point lead (31-15) after an Olsen free-throw midway through the second.
  • Stonehill didn't go away and closed the half with eight-straight points, including six by Loder around a three-pointer by fifth-year Emily Bramanti, to draw back within seven (31-24) at the break.
  • Providence would hold Stonehill to just eight second half points, including 0-for-12 from the floor in the final frame, to pull away.
  • The Friars grabbed a 12-point cushion after a layup from senior Janai Crooms three minutes into the third.
  • PC took a 15-point lead (45-30) into the final quarter, before extending the lead in the final ten minutes.

Noteworthy

  • Tonight marked the first meeting between Stonehill and Providence since November 10, 1984, when the Friars picked up a 74-53 win. PC now holds a 4-2 lead in the all-time series that dates back to 1975.
  • Loder's season and game-high 17 points are just one shy of her career best, set at George Washington University in a game at Memphis University in November, 2019.
  • Glidden pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds for the second-straight game, marking her sixth career double-figure rebound performance.
