Wilson fills the box score with double-double performance for Knights

TEANECK, N.J. (January 16, 2023) – Fairleigh Dickenson University stretched a 25-2 run over the course of the first and second quarters to gain control on its way to a 70-36 victory over Stonehill College to remain atop the Northeast Conference standings in an NEC women's basketball matchup at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center this afternoon.

Junior Chloe Wilson filled the box score to lead FDU to its fifth-straight win with a double-double as she compiled game-high totals of 21 points, ten rebounds, four assists and two steals. She finished 6-for-14 shooting on the afternoon, including 2-for-3 from three-point distance, while converting 7-of-11 free-throws, scoring 18 points in the first half alone, in leading the Knights to a 20-point halftime lead it wouldn't relinquish.

No other player from FDU reached double-figures as senior Celia Carbonell and sophomore Ella Fajardo each contributed nine points, with Carbonell adding five rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Miranda Elebring pulled down nine boards for the Knights who outrebounded Stonehill 46-29 for the game, pulling down 16 offensive boards that resulted in a 22-3 scoring advantage in second chance points.

Senior Mia Kelly paced Stonehill with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and six rebounds. Fifth-year Sophie Glidden totaled six points, six rebounds and four assists, while postgrad Maddie Loder chipped in eight points.

Stonehill had an early edge behind five quick points from Kelly, leading by three (8-5) after a three-pointer from fifth-year Emily Bramanti midway through the opening quarter. Wilson responded with a triple at the other end and then FDU emerged from the first quarter media timeout and outscored the Skyhawks 9-2 over the remainder of the opening frame to take a seven point lead (17-10) into the second behind 12 points from Wilson.

FDU scored the first 13 points of the second quarter, including six from Wilson, to extend that run to 25-2 and a 20-point lead (30-10) after a Carbonell basket with 2:48 remaining in the first half. The Knights held Stonehill to just two Bramanti free-throws in the second quarter, outscoring the Skyhawks 15-2 in the frame.

FDU extended its lead to 23 (37-14) with its first five points from senior Dahomee Forgues, but Stonehill made a push, trimming its deficit to 17 (37-20) after six-straight points from Glidden, Kelly and Loder to force a timeout three minutes into the third quarter. The Knights recovered and pushed its lead to 28 (50-22) with a 13-2 run to end the third and didn't look back again.
