Theilgard leads the team in batting average and doubles this season

EASTON, Massachusetts (May 3, 2021) – Seventh-seeded Stonehill College is set to make its seventh appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference softball tournament, when it visits second-seeded Franklin Pierce University for a first round game tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Stonehill (5-23, 4-20 NE10) is competing in its seventh NE10 Tournament in program history and will be returning after a five-year hiatus. The Skyhawks last made back-to-back NE10 Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.

Franklin Pierce (19-7, 18-6 NE10), will be making its first NE10 Tournament appearance in program history as it has posted a record year finishing second in the Northeast Division.

The winner of tomorrow afternoon's matchup will advance to the second round on Thursday, May 6th in a single elimination game facing the winner of sixth-seeded Saint Michael's College at the third-seeded Assumption University at the highest remaining seed.

Leading the Skyhawks at the plate is senior Michelle Theilgard with a .333 batting average. She has totaled 12 RBI, scoring 17 runs, and tallying a team best seven doubles. Behind her is senior outfielder Genna Hartman with a career best .305 batting average, driving in a team-high 17 RBI. Sophomore second baseman Courtney Brochu is also in the top 50 in the Conference with a .291 batting average.

Under third year Head Coach Andy Klaus, the Ravens improved from 11-30 overall in 2019 to 19-7 overall this year. Graduate student Madi Killebrew leads the team with a .438 batting average, driving in 23 RBI and scoring a team-high 24 runs, as well as leading the team with 12 doubles. On the mound for the Ravens, Cyrena Zemaitis has led the team with a 1.26 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched with a 9.1 record with five complete games. Freshman Ashley Cangiano is second on the team and in the top 10 for batting average with a .385 clip, as she drove in 19 RBI and has scored 15 runs.
