Softball Splits Twin Bill With Southern N.H.

Theilgard tallied her first homerun of the season, 11th career

HOOKSETT, New Hampshire (March 27, 2021) – The Stonehill College softball team (2-4, 1-1 NE10) picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference win with a 5-4 win over Southern New Hampshire University (1-3, 1-3 NE10) Saturday afternoon, as the Penmen took game two 6-4.

In the top of the first, Stonehill's bats were active as Theilgard singled to left field with two outs. Perrone found a hole in right center for her second double of the season, fourth of her career, for a 1-0 lead for the Skyhawks scoring Theilgard. Southern New Hampshire only tallied one hit in the bottom of the frame, but stranded two on base.

With runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the second, Brochu's single to left center brought home two more runs for the Skyhawks, 3-0. Brochu advanced to second on the play, and with Hannah Ricker's bunt, Brochu rounded the bases scoring on an error, 4-0.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the third, Gianna Azzato tallied an RBI, reaching first on a fielder's choice to extend the Skyhawks' lead to five, 5-0. The Penmen's bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning as four runs came across on three hits to cut the deficit to one, 5-4.

Perrone fended off the Penmen for 3.1 innings, giving up only three hits and allowing no runs for her first win of the season.

Stonehill and Southern N.H. each put up a tally in the first inning, as the Skyhawks' Perrone drove the ball out to left field for an RBI single, scoring Brochu, 1-0. With one out in the bottom of the frame, Shannon Gifford drove home Chloe Griffin from second to tie the game, 1-1.

In the top of the third, Hannah Ricker reached first on a bunt with one out, and Theilgard brought her home with her first homerun of the season, 11th of her career, over the left field fence, 3-1. Stonehill added another run in the top of the fourth with an RBI double to left field, bringing home Alexandra Hammond from first, 4-1.

The Penmen scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits and two errors to tie the game for the second time, 4-4. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, the Penmen saw Alyssa Dimauro double to left center and Jackie Gavin drove her home with a single up the middle, 5-4. Southern N.H. put runners in scoring position, and Bryn Garczynsk drove in the sixth run for the Penmen, 6-4. Stonehill stranded one on base in the top of the seventh, as Southern N.H. secured their first win and Conference victory of the season.
