Softball Concludes Home Schedule Falling to Franklin Pierce Twice

Ricker went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 27, 2021) – The Stonehill College softball team (5-19, 4-16 NE10) was edged by Franklin Pierce University (16-6, 15-5 NE10) in Northeast-10 Conference play Tuesday afternoon on Fr. Gartland Field with scores of 4-3 and 8-0, in six innings.

Key Moments:
With two outs in the top of the first, Franklin Pierce loaded the bases and Jess Rego singled to right field driving in the first run of the game, 1-0. Ari Rodriquez was then hit by a pitch to bring in the second run of the game, putting the Ravens up 2-0.  

Stonehill tallied two of their seven hits in the bottom of the first as Ricker doubled down the left field line with one out and then Theilgard replaced her on base with her own double, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1.

In the top of the third, Franklin Pierce's Gina Hinckley homered over the left center fence to give the Ravens a two-run advantage once again, 3-1. Stonehill's Perrone sent over her first-career homerun in the bottom of the fourth, as the teams traded blasts, 3-2.

Madi Killebrew doubled in the top of the fifth and Hinckley connected for her third hit of the game, doubling to right center, to bring home Killebrew, 4-2. Once again, Stonehill answered with a run in the next inning, as Hartman sent out her third homerun of the season and fourth of her career to put the game within one again, 4-3. Franklin Pierce threated with two runners in the top of the seventh but Stonehill got out of the inning with a pop up to first base, while Samantha Sylvester retired six-straight in the circle to earn the win for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce outhit Stonehill 9-3 in game two of the doubleheader, as the Ravens broke open the game with a four-run first inning. With a three-run blast from Hinckley and a run scored on a throwing error, Franklin Pierce went up 4-0. With one out and runners on second and third in the top of the third, Jenna Murray flew out to center field to put another run up on the board, 5-0.

In the circle, Cyrena Zemaitis retired seven straight, as Ricker recorded the Skyhawks' first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Franklin Pierce tallied the day's fifth homerun, as Cangiano put one over the left center fence in the top of the fifth to add to the Raven's score, 6-0. Killebrew brought the total up to six for homeruns with a two-out shot to center field for a eight-run advantage in the top of the sixth, 8-0.

Stonehill put back-to-back runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, with their last at-bats, Zemaitis retired the side, holding on for her ninth win of the season, 8-0.

Stonehill will conclude the regular season with its final series against No. 15 Saint Anselm College (20-4, 17-3 NE10) on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 in Manchester, New Hampshire on the South Athletic Fields. Friday's games are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while Saturday's are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 pm.
